CITATION OF COMRADE EDEM AKPAN UDO
SENIOR WORKS SUPERINTENDENT (Retired)
Comrade Edem Akpan Udo was born on the 29th November, 1963 into the Royal family of Late Chief Akpan Udo Umo Akpan of Mbiabong Ikot Ambit, in Ibiono Ibom Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria.
He started his primary education at the Primary School, Nsan in Ibiono Ibom Local Government Area in 1967 and obtained his First School Leaving Certificate (FSLC) in 1973. After his primary education he got a vocational training as a furniture maker at No. 36 Aka Road, Uyo where he obtained his trade test I, II and III certifications from Federal Ministry of Labour and Productivity; thereafter he enrolled in West African Senior Secondary Certificate (WAEC) external Examinations in 2007 and passed with flying colours in a bid to further his education.
Mr. Edem A. Udo had worked with many companies including:
Nigeria Water Resources Development Company Ltd, Ibadan.
Reynolds Construction Company (Nigeria) Limited (RCC) – Calabar.
Honeywell Construction Company Ltd – Uyo.
O. B. Iwara Farm Ltd, Ugep, Cross River State.
He later joined Akwa Ibom State Water Cooperation in 1991; in 2002 his services was transferred to the main stream civil service by the Akwa Ibom State Government and posted to the Ministry of Works and Transport. Having served creditably in the ministry, he was given approval to proceed to Akwa Ibom State Civil Service Training School, Uyo where he bagged his Works Superintendent Certificate in Civil Engineering. On his return from studies, he was redeployed to the Civil Engineering Directorate of the Ministry, where he has supervised several Road Construction and other project works in the State.
It is worthy to note that he has been a dynamic member of Nigerian Labour Congress and One time Chairman of the Amalgamated Union of Public Corporation, Civil Service Technical and Recreational Services Employees (AUPCTRE) Ministry of Works, Uyo Branch, Dakkada Secretariat Uyo. Comrade Edem Akpan Udo likewise served as President, End of The Year Staff Welfare Scheme, Ministry of Works and Transport, Uyo Area office, Wellington Bassey Way, Uyo for many years. He has been an Acting family head of Nung Animbuk and presently the Chairman of Nung Animbuk family in Mbiabong Ikot Ambit, Ibiono Ibom Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State.
Having worked in the public service of Akwa Ibom State Government for a productive 32 years, he has voluntarily retired from service this day the 29th November, 2023 at the age of sixty (60) years old.
He is happily married to his beloved wife Mrs. Ukemeobong Edem Akpan, and the marriage is blessed with five (5) children, four (4) boys and one (1) girl alongside three daughters in-law and four (4) grandchildren.
Comrade Edem Akpan Udo is a practicing engineering technologist, an astute administrator, a disciplinarian par excellence, honest, reliable, dedicated and devout Christian, a reserved man with very high ethical and moral values that produced awesome results.
His hobbies include reading, listening to the news and surfing the internet.
