If you are like me, and you are very picky about the naturalness of wigs, then you must have tried various methods to make your hairline look more realistic. I have been wearing wigs for a while, from the first hand-woven ones to the glueless styles. Until one day when I tried the bleached knots wig for the first time, I realized that the small detail of "knot bleaching" can really make the overall naturalness of the wig a level higher.
What is a Bleached Knots Wig?
In simple terms, it is to bleach the black knot at the bottom of the wig to make it less obvious. For ordinary lace wigs, because the hair is hand-knotted and sewn to the lace, you can see some dark knots at the roots of the hair, especially on the light lace. Bleached knots are bleached to lighten the color of the knots so that they look more like hair growing from the real scalp.
My Own Experience
The first time I tried a bleached knots wig was in the summer. I bought a CurlyMe middle-parted body wave glueless lace wig. When I received it, I felt that the hairline was really natural at first glance, without the obvious "dots" or "black spots". I don't even have to trim my baby hair deliberately; it just looks like my own scalp when I open it naturally.
It is especially obvious when I am on camera. I used to use filters or retouch when taking photos, but now I can just use natural light without any modification.
Its Advantages:
More natural hairline
This is the most obvious advantage. Especially for hairstyles that expose the hairline, such as middle-parted and side-parted, bleached knots really make people more confident, and it is difficult for others to tell that you are wearing a lace wig.
Reduce dependence on makeup
Some sisters have to use foundation to apply lace or concealer to cover the knots. The roots of bleached knots wigs are relatively invisible, which saves this step and is lazy-friendly!
Very suitable for dark hair styles
Especially natural black or dark brown, after using bleached knots, the overall look will be more integrated and visually very comfortable.
Its Disadvantages:
It may affect the strength of the hair
Because bleaching is a chemical treatment after all, it will make the hair at the knot more fragile. After wearing my kinky curly bleached knots
glueless lace wig for a while, one or two hairs fell off in the front row of my hairline, but it was not obvious, but it did mean that the knots would become more brittle.
The price is slightly higher
Compared with lace wigs without bleached knots, bleached knots are usually more expensive. After all, it requires an extra process, plus manual processing, which is understandable.
Not suitable for light-colored wigs
For example, for wigs with very light colors such as 613 blonde, bleached knots are not very meaningful, and may even bleach the roots of the hair yellow, so bleached knots are generally not recommended for this type of color.
So, Is It Worth Trying?
My answer is: it is worth it, especially if you care about the naturalness of your hairline and like dark lace wigs, bleached knots can definitely bring surprises. Although it has some minor drawbacks, such as being careful not to be too rough when maintaining it, the "scalp feeling" it brings is really nice.
Of course, it doesn't mean that a wig without bleached knots is not good-looking. Sometimes you can apply concealer to modify it yourself. But if your budget is OK and you pursue the effect of "human hair is real hair", you might as well try a wig with bleached knots.
For me, it has become one of the ones I wear most often in daily life!
