How do I achieve a wet-hair look like a runway model?

I used to think wet-hair styling was only for models and celebrities, and that you had to use your own hair to achieve that look. Until one day, I tried wet-styling my wig, and I realized—us, even ordinary people can easily achieve that "fresh off the runway" look. Today, I'll share how I usually create wet-hair styling on a human hair wig. It's really not difficult, and the results are amazing!

1. Wash your wig before styling.
My first failure was styling a glueless wig that had been worn for a few days and was a bit tangled. The result was not only a mess, but also a greasy look. I've learned my lesson: before wet-styling, I always wash my human hair wig thoroughly with a mild shampoo and then use a moisturizing conditioner, especially on the frizzy areas.

After washing, I don't blow-dry completely. I start styling when it's about 70% to 80% dry. This is when it's most manageable and absorbs the product better.

2. Use a light leave-in conditioner
After washing, I spray a little leave-in conditioner or apply a light conditioner by hand—avoid heavy, heavy conditioners that weigh down the hair. This step helps the hair flow more smoothly without making it too stiff after styling.

3. Choose the right styling products
I've made a lot of mistakes with this. I initially used a strong-hold hairspray, but it made the whole wig stiff and not at all the "wet look" I was looking for.

Later, I switched to a styling gel specifically designed for wet styling. It's shiny but not sticky. Another trick I have is mixing the gel with a little essential oil in the palm of your hand, rubbing it together, and then applying it evenly to the wig. The result is truly luxurious—it looks freshly washed but has a textured feel.

4. Apply product section by section
I like to first section the wig into sections and then apply the gel strand by strand, focusing on the crown and forehead, where it's most noticeable. I run my fingers through the hair and gently pinch the ends to create a layered, wet look.

If you're going for a slicked-back, wet-hair look, use a small brush to smooth the forehead and sides, then press it down for a more model-like look.

5. Air-dry with a finishing spray
I usually don't blow-dry my hair afterward, but let it air-dry. If I'm pressed for time, I'll use a diffuser on low heat to avoid ruining the look. I finish with a light, weightless finishing spray to lock in the wet, glossy finish.

6. A few extra tips
If I'm going out or taking photos, I'll apply a little highlighter to my neck and collarbone to blend in with the wet look and create a magazine-ready look. Sometimes I also add small metal clips or beads to my wet hair for a more runway vibe!

My Takeaways

Initially, I thought styling wet hair was beyond my reach, but with the right products and simple techniques, anyone can achieve it. Moreover, this style is especially suitable for summer. Whether you wear a suspender skirt or a suit jacket, it is very atmospheric.
