When it comes to long wigs, especially those 26 inches or longer, I'm both in love and fear. I love them because they're so flowing and instantly exude aura when I walk down the street or attend a party. But I'm also afraid of the extra care they require, as minor issues like tangles and frizz can be a real headache.
My first long bust-down wig was a 20-inch one, just to give it a try. It completely transformed my look, making me look like a celebrity walking the red carpet. But after wearing it a couple of times, I realized that long
buss down wigs are particularly prone to tangling at the nape of the neck or around the shoulders. I've since learned a few things:
First, comb your hair regularly. I usually use a wide-tooth comb, starting at the ends and working my way up to avoid breaking strands. At first, I was lazy and ended up with a tangled mess that took me half an hour to untangle.
Second, washing and caring for your hair is crucial. I don't wash it too often; about every 7-10 wears is enough. When I do, I use a low-sulfate shampoo, cleansing it with gentle circular motions, and then conditioner to smooth it back into place. After rinsing, I gently squeeze out excess water and wrap it in a towel, avoiding rubbing.
Third, blow-drying is also crucial. Air drying is best, but if I'm pressed for time, I'll use a low setting to avoid overheating and damaging my hair.
I also apply a little hair oil to the ends to preserve the wig's shine. When storing, I keep it on a wig stand instead of just stuffing it in a bag.
I've gotten used to caring for my long, busted-down wig. While it's a bit more laborious than a
short bob wig, the reward is a truly goddess-like aura. With proper care, a long wig lasts a long time, and I always get enviable looks every time I wear it out.
