Family of Arrested Boko Haram Suspect Cries for Justice

Barely 72 hours after the arrest of Chindo Bello, one of the 100 Boko Haram terrorists declared wanted last month by the Nigerian Army, his family has cried out that he is not a Boko Haram member.

They appealed to the authorities concerned to ensure “justice with fairness in their investigations so as not to give room for miscarriage of justice and release him.”

An elder brother of the arrested suspect, Sodangi Chindo, who made the plea on behalf of the family Tuesday while addressing a press conference in Bauchi, said the “detained suspect Bello Chindo was wrongly arrested by the army on November 7 at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport Abuja, and he has nothing in common with the wicked Boko Haram insurgents.”

Sodangi said: “On that fateful date the detained suspect was dropped by his senior brother at the airport on his way via Lagos to Cotonou to purchase, Tokunbo vehicles for some of his customers.

He said the family were shocked and terrified over his arrest, and advised “authorities concern to release him or conduct their investigations on him professionally with caution so a s not to miscarriage justice, harm innocent citizen or to defame his character.”

Sodangi said: “Chindo is an indigene of Bauchi State who was born and raised in Jos Dogon Karfe, Plateau State. He attended Roman Catholic Mission Primary School, Giring, GSS Gangare and was a student of Sociology with the University of Abuja. Currently he is a motor mechanic and has been with his brother Musa Chindo who is currently working with Ali Motors at Area II Garki Abuja for over 10 years and he has never been to Maiduguri throughout his life.

“And we have never known him to have any sympathy with any insurgency all over the world.”

He said: “The detained suspect is known as a peace loving person, humble ,kind and his picture is not among the 100 suspects declared wanted by the army.”
