When it comes to drawstring wigs, I fell in love with them almost immediately. They're so effortless, especially when I'm feeling lazy and need to get out the door quickly. But many friends ask me, "Will this type of wig break down over time? How long does it last?" Actually, with proper care, a drawstring wig can last longer than you might think.
I've been using the curly
drawstring wig I'm wearing now for almost a year and a half. I originally bought it because it was hot in the summer and I didn't want to wear a full wig, so I tried something that could be tied into a high ponytail or bun. It's lightweight and incredibly durable.
At first, I thought it would only last three or four months, but I've discovered that with careful washing and storage, it maintains its curls and elasticity.
I've learned a few things:
First, don't wash it too often. I started out washing it every two weeks, but I've found that once a month is usually enough. Washing too often can dry out your hair and make it lose its elasticity.
Second, avoid using too hot water. Drawstring wigs are usually made of human hair or a combination of hair, and hot water can damage their structure. I usually soak them in warm water with conditioner for ten minutes, then let them air dry.
Third, storage is also crucial. Every time I take it off, I spray it with some hair oil and place it in a hair net to prevent tangles.
It's not the time it takes to truly impact a wig's lifespan, but maintenance.
A friend of mine wears it almost daily, and she only lasted six months before replacing it because she always blow-dries it out and doesn't condition it.
My wig still has the curl and bounce it needs, and it looks like new.
So, with proper care, a drawstring wig can easily last more than a year or even two.
Compared to lace wigs or
half wigs, it's simpler, with no lace trim to maintain and no glue required, making it less prone to damage.
If you don't tend to your hair regularly but want a wig that will last a long time, a drawstring wig is definitely the best value.
