Every year around New Year's, I start seriously thinking about gift-giving, especially for the Black women in my life—friends, family, or partners. Giving a gift too casually can easily result in it becoming a forgotten item; but if you truly consider their lifestyles, the answer isn't complicated. I've gradually discovered that the most touching gifts are often related to "everyday life," not just gimmicks.
Perfume is one of my most frequent choices for New Year's gifts. Many Black women don't necessarily prefer overly sweet or intensely strong fragrances; instead, they prefer layered scents that are close to the skin. A scent that isn't overpowering when first applied, but gradually unfolds with body temperature, makes the recipient feel truly appreciated. Giving perfume for the New Year has a natural sense of ceremony; it doesn't need to be used every day, but each time it's used, it reminds them of the giver.
Later, I discovered that wigs are also a very suitable New Year's gift, provided you choose the right type. The truly easy-to-give and easy-to-use option is a glueless wig. Many Black women juggle work and life and don't want to spend too much time on styling.
Glueless wigs are quick to put on and don't pull at the hairline, especially curly styles, which look more like their own hair. If you know the recipient likes to change their hairstyle frequently, this gift will often exceed expectations.
Pajamas are often overlooked, but I think they're a great choice. For many Black women, comfort is paramount after taking off their
human hair wigs and makeup at home. A set of pajamas made of good material, that's not stuffy or tight, might not be stunning at first glance, but it will be worn repeatedly in daily life. Truly thoughtful gifts are often those that provide this kind of effortless comfort.
