Football fans want FG to find solution to NFA crisis

Abakaliki -  Football fans in Ebonyi has called on the Federal Government to solve the ongoing Nigerian Football Association crisis to save Nigeria from further loss of matches in the AFCON qualifiers.

They made the call in separate interviews  in Abakaliki on Sunday.

The Congolese defeated the Super Eagles 3-2 to place second in their group behind South Africa who beat Sudan 3-0.

The fans wondered why Nigeria should allow greedy politicians to derail its football successes through power tussles.

Chief Anselm Igwe, a former lawmaker, said: “All these people jostling for the NFA leadership were after their personal gains and not the nation’s football development.’’

Jude Opara, a secondary school games master, also said that the crisis in the NFA contributed to the nation losing the match, and called for the banning of all those involved from football administration.

“Stephen Keshi cannot give his best to the team when he does not have a valid contract with the NFA.

“The officials could have used the success recorded by the Eagles at the last World Cup to prepare for the AFCON qualifiers but they choose to fight one another,” Opara said.

Mr Benjamin Ozoh, a police officer, called for the arrest and prosecution of members of both factions involved in the NFA crisis.

He traced the crisis in the NFA to the fact that individuals saw public office as a means of self-enrichment.

He called on “FIFA to give Nigeria the grace of weeding avaricious politicians” to save its football from total collapse’’.

Joy Mbah, a member of Ebonyi female soccer team, however, blamed the players for the loss, saying that that they were not fit.

Mbah said that some of the players lacked commitment and were nonchalant. (NAN)
