Do K-pop idols mostly dye their hair or wear wigs?

When I first started following K-pop, I always thought that the idols' exaggerated hair colors on stage were all dyed by themselves. Every time I saw their silver-white, pink, or cool gray-blue hair during a comeback, I thought, "That's so cool! How can their hair still be so smooth?" But after learning more about the behind-the-scenes process and experiencing styling myself, I realized that it's almost impossible to achieve such frequent changes with real hair. I once tried bleaching and dyeing my hair repeatedly in a short period, and my hair became dry, tangled, and noticeably thinner. I completely understand why idols need to use wigs.

In reality, most idols' real hair is dyed, but to achieve stage effects and protect their hair, they almost always use wigs when frequently changing colors or styles in a short period. Especially when their hair color changes drastically within a week, their styling is completely different for different shows, or their stage styling is very elaborate but their hairline remains perfect, it's almost certain that 360 lace wigs are involved in most of the work. The advantages of wigs are obvious: they not only protect real hair from frequent bleaching and damage, but also allow for quick styling changes during filming and stage performances, while maintaining shine and curl. Under the lights, they look more natural and the effect is more consistent than real hair.

I personally experienced using glueless half wigs a few times before stage performances or photoshoots, and only then did I understand that the idols' choices weren't "random," but a balance between work and health. Many times, their hair color looks extreme or even impossible to achieve naturally, but in reality, wigs help them make these bold attempts while ensuring their real hair remains undamaged. Gradually, I understood that the so-called freedom of hair color on stage is actually the result of the combined efforts of real hair and wigs. While idols use their real hair for everyday styling, wigs become their best assistant for short-term comebacks and stage performances.
