AIB faults Senate on air crashes’ reports

AIB-1-Copy

THE Accident Investigation Bureau (AIB) said yesterday that contrary to the Senate’s claims, the Bureau has published in its website (aib.gov.ng) reports and information surrounding four air crashes from 2005 to 2012.

The Bureau’s General Manager, Public Affairs, Mr. Tunji Oketunbi said this in a statement in Lagos on Sunday.

AIB is responsible for the investigation of civil aircraft accidents and serious incidents within Nigeria.

The statement described the claim by the upper chamber as misinformed. It said that reports that the reports on 2005 Sosoliso crash, 2005 Bellview crash, ADC crash of 2006 and Dana crash of 2012 were yet to be in the public domain was incorrect.

According to AIB, as at the time the debate was going on in the upper chamber, the reports referred to were on the bureau’s website (aib.gov.ng).
The bureau said that the reports in question, like many others were on the AIB’s website.

“Just a click away and that site has been in the public domain as long as the AIB has existed. The reports have led to many safety recommendations that are under implementation stage by the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA). AIB holds the Senate and the distinguished senators in high regard and will not want to join issue with the premier legislative arm.”

“However, the AIB is saddened by this unjustified vilification of the Bureau on the floor of the Senate as the allegation was mostly incorrect,” it said.
