A PUNCH journalist, Mr. Simon Ejembi, has been recognised as the 2015 Capital Market Journalist of the Year in the PEARL Awards, whose 20th anniversary celebration was held on Sunday in Lagos.
The organisers said he was honoured with the award in recognition of his outstanding performance in the reportage and objective analysis of activities in the Nigerian capital market, thereby contributing immensely to the development of the Nigerian capital market and the economy as a whole.
Describing Ejembi’s write-ups on the capital market as in-depth, incisive and analytical, the organisers cited one of his recent feature article titled ‘Silver lining in stock market cloud’.
Ejembi, who holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Mass Communication from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, started his career as a copy editor at NEXT newspaper from where he joined The PUNCH as a correspondent in 2011.
Sectoral leadership awards were given to companies across sectors at the event, with Guaranty Trust Bank Plc, Presco Plc, UAC of Nigeria Plc, Chams Plc, Nigerian Breweries Plc, 7-Up Bottling Company Plc, PZ Cussons Nigeria Plc and Ashaka Cement Plc emerging as winners.
Other winners include Mobil Oil Nigeria Plc, University Press Plc, Mutual Benefits Assurance Plc, Stanbic IBTC Holdings Plc, and Fidson Healthcare Plc.
Other recipients of special honorary awards were the former Chief Executive Officer, Nigerisn Stock Exchange, Dr. Hayford Alile, for capital market development; the Group Managing Director, Mutual Benefits Group, Dr. Akin Ogunbiyi, as outstanding CEO of the year, and Proshare WebTV, which clinched the media award for quality capital market reporting.
Instituted in 1995 to reward companies quoted on the capital market for operational and stock trading excellence, the PEARL Awards is also endorsed by the Securities and Exchange Commission.
