AS part of its corporate social responsibility, staff members of Central Securities Clearing System Plc., (CSCS), Lagos recently visited Modupe Cole Memorial Child Care Centre in Akoka, Lagos. The centre, which caters for mentally and physically-challenged children were presented with foodstuffs, toiletries and a cheque by CSCS as their contribution TO their welfare.
According to the Managing Director, CSCS, Mr Kyari Bukar, “As a corporate organisation, it is our responsibility to give back to the society and the environment where we have thrived. There is no better place than Modupe Cole Memorial, considering what it has been doing over the years. There are many homes in Lagos but we have chosen this home because it is one of the oldest and quite established.”
While addressing the teachers in the centre, he noted that it is necessary for them to show their support and contribute, not just as corporate citizens but also as humans with a kind heart to extend a hand of help.
“As human beings, the difference between us and animals is that we take care of ourselves, and what the centre authorities do are much more than contributing to a better society.”
In an appreciation for the kind gesture, the Head Teacher of the centre, Mrs Florence Kayode thanked the group for bearing them in their heart as shown by their visit and donation of items to support the running cost given them by the Lagos State government, which is not enough, hence their continual solicitation of support from assistance.
She also intimated all on the home activities, which comprised of the educable, trainable and total dependents sections.
“The educable ones are those who study up to university level, even though it will take time, the trainable once are in our vocational departments. They are involved in various handiworks. The totally dependent ones are those in the home. We have up to age 60 there. They cannot help themselves and have to be catered for 24 hours. Many of them cannot even identify their families and have not come in touch with them,” she said.
