Escaped Chibok girls complain of negligence, abandonment

ProsperProsper Posts: 1,432

The escaped Chibok schoolgirls who were said to have been sponsored to study in different post primary schools across the nation have complained of neglect and abandonment by the state government who kept them at one of the Government lodges in Maiduguri, the Borno state capital. Sources said.

It would be recalled that on 24 September, 2014, Borno State government at a well organised reception held at the government house announced that it is going to spend N100 million on 51 of the escaped schoolgirls of Government Secondary School, Chibok to complete their secondary school in another state.

Governor Kashim Shettima while addressing the schoolgirls said the sum of N1.4 million will be spent annually on each of the 51 schoolgirls to enable them continue their studies in Kaduna or Plateau states.

But our correspondent who spoke with one of the Chibok girls, reports that the girls said that “over 50 of them were dumped in single room in one of the government lodges”.

She said “over 50 of us were kept in a single room with no enough food, as only two persons were left to take care of our feeding. Most of us came with only two or three pairs of cloths but we were only given N10, 000, five wrappers and a cellphone each for all that while”.

According to her, the embattled principal of the school, Mrs. Asabe Kwambula usually come and pick them in Batches to undisclosed locations after seizing their cellphones to deny them of communicating with their parents and loved ones.

“As I am speaking to you now, they picked 26 of us mostly Christians to unknown destination and just yesterday they picked another 13, remained only 15 of us, she complained.

She further stated that since they were brought in over a month ago they were not given enough food, as many of them complained of hunger but there is no way they can go out to buy food as they were placed under tight security watch.
