A coalition of civil society organisations, the National Support Groups for Good Governance, has asked the Department of State Services and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission to cleanse the judiciary of other corrupt judges.

The group described corruption in the judiciary as a cancer that must be eliminated, if the current anti-graft crusade of the Federal Government was to succeed.Speaking at the formation of the coalition on Monday in Abuja, the NASUGG National Coordinator, Dr. Chidia Maduekwe, also canvassed for the arrest and prosecution of any corrupt member of the government, no matter his position.

He stated that his coalition endorsed the arrest of the judges, stressing that the raid on their homes was not an attack on the judiciary as being reported, but a strong message to corrupt elements that it was not going to be business as usual.

The judges arrests, he said, would send the message that pecuniary inducements would no longer be the deciding factor in delivery of Justice.

Maduekwe said, “The National Support Groups for Good Governance, supports the action of the DSS in arresting the judges. As the last hope of the common man in his pursuit of justice, the judiciary stable has to be cleansed as much as possible.

“The DSS and the EFCC should therefore arrest more corrupt judges, legislators, and ministers involved in corruption. The arrests also should serve as a deterrent to any other person with mercantile tendencies in the judicial system that business is no longer as usual.”

The NASUGG coordinator also admonished the security agencies to also purge themselves of corrupt personnel, who he said could compromise the war against graft in the country.

He explained that the coalition, made up of various CSOs, was formed to mobilise popular support for the anti-corruption campaign of the government, noting that the crusade needed the collective endorsement of all Nigerians to succeed.
