High Court dismisses FG’s fraud case against Topolo’s company

The federal government on Wednesday lost its N34 billion fraud case against Global West Vessel as the Federal High Court dismissed all 40 count charges. The company is linked to prominent Niger Delta militant leader, Ekpemupolo, alias Tompolo.

Other defendants in the case included a former Director-General of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency, Patrick Akpolokemi, Kime Engozu, Rex Elem, Gregory Mbonu and Warredi Enisuoh.

Odimiri Electrical Limited; Boloboere Property and Estate Limited; and Destre Consult Limited – were also companies that the EFCC filed cases against back in 2015.

The courts had initially summoned Tompolo but his continuous refusal to obey court orders made Mr Festus Keyamo (SAN), apply to the court that Tompolo’s name be removed from the charge sheet.

In a ruling on Wednesday on the defendants’ no-case submission, Justice Ibrahim Buba pronounced that the prosecution “failed to establish a prima facie case” against the defendants.

Justice Ibrahim then dismissed all 40 count charges filed against the company by the EFCC, and set all accused free.
